I co-authored the official “Facebook for Educators Guide” for Facebook with BJ Fogg and Linda Phillips. On the first page of the guide we make this statement:
“Like you, we’ve heard news reports that raise questions about the misuse of digital technologies, including social networking sites.
Understandably, you may be wary about how social media is affecting your students, or you may be concerned about how new technology is changing your classroom. Our hope is to lighten the burden of new technology by offering clear explanations about Facebook in education.”
In no way did we as the experts and authors of the Facebook Education guide, or Facebook advocate using persuasive technology or social networks as a means to deter children from school tasks.
